By default, your feed only shows posts you’ve written. That’s quiet and lonely. Once you follow rooms, the feed becomes a rich mix of:
✅ Your own posts (always visible)
✅ Posts from every room you follow – created by other South Africans sharing job openings, client leads, mentorship moments and practical advice
✅ Real‑time updates – new posts appear instantly with a “Load new posts” button
If you follow no rooms, Indabazi will kindly remind you to explore. But trust me, following at least two or three rooms changes everything.
Pro tip (from my own experience): follow at least 2–3 rooms that match your interests, like #Economic plus #Political or #Creative plus #Tech, to see a lively and balanced feed.
🚪 Step‑by‑step: how to follow a room (I’ll keep it simple)
Using the Indabazi app or web version, the process is identical and takes seconds. Let us now see the steps.
- Open Indabazi and log in – make sure you’re signed in (email or Google). Guest mode does not support following.
- Navigate to the “Rooms” tab – tap the door / rooms icon in the bottom navigation bar on mobile, or click “Rooms” in the web menu.
- Browse the “Available Rooms” list – you’ll see rooms like Social, Economic, Financial, Political, Creative, Tech, Health, Sports and more.
- Tap “Follow” next to any room – the button is blue. After tapping, it instantly turns green and says “Following”. That room is now added to your followed list.
- Repeat for any room that interests you – follow as many as you like. Unfollow anytime by tapping the green “Following” button.
- Go to the “Feed” tab – now you’ll see posts from those rooms! 🎉 That’s where the opportunities appear.
- Optional: click any room name inside the Rooms tab to see posts only from that specific room – great for deep dives.

📱 What appears on your feed after following rooms?
Once you follow rooms, your feed transforms into a personalised hub. Here’s exactly what you’ll see:
- Posts from all followed rooms combined in reverse chronological order (newest first).
- Your own posts – even if your personal “room” is different, your posts always show up.
- Like, comment and share actions – engage with the community directly from the feed.
- A “New posts” banner – when fresh posts arrive in followed rooms, a blue banner appears; tap it to load them without refreshing.
- Room badges on each post – you’ll see a coloured badge indicating the room (e.g. Social, Economic) so you always know the context.
Real‑time syncing: Indabazi uses live listeners. When someone posts a job lead or a bursary in a room you follow, it appears in your feed within seconds. No manual refresh needed.
⚠️ What if my feed still says “No posts”? (troubleshooting from my own hiccups)
- “You’re only seeing your own posts” – That means you haven’t followed any rooms yet. Go to the Rooms tab, follow at least one room, and return to Feed. The moment you follow a room, content starts appearing.
- “No posts in followed rooms” – If a room is new or quiet, be the first to post! Also try following more active rooms like Social or Economic – they usually have daily discussions. I once followed a quiet room and waited two days – nothing. Then I posted a question and suddenly people replied. So don’t be shy.
- Unfollowed accidentally? – Revisit the Rooms tab; the button will say “Follow” again. Just tap to rejoin.
🔄 Unfollowing a room (quick guide)
Change your mind? Unfollowing is just as easy:
- Go to the Rooms tab.
- Find the room you want to remove (it will show a green “Following” button).
- Tap the green button – it instantly changes back to blue “Follow”.
- Feed updates automatically: posts from that room will disappear from your main feed (they won’t be deleted, you just won’t see them unless you revisit the room directly).
🧠 Advanced: your personal “Room” vs followed rooms
You might notice a “My Room” setting in your profile. That’s the category where your own posts appear. It doesn’t affect which rooms you follow. For example, you can set your personal room to “Creative” but follow “Economic” and “Political” rooms – your feed will show posts from Economic & Political, and your own posts will carry the Creative badge. - “I followed a room but feed is still empty” – That room might have no posts yet. Try posting something yourself in that room, or follow another active room like #Social. Posts appear instantly once created.
- “Rooms tab missing?” – Update your Indabazi app to the latest version (v2.0+). Web users: click the menu icon and select “Rooms”.
