About us
Indabazi means the gathering place.
A marketplace should be where a community already meets — not a warehouse three provinces away. We are rebuilding online commerce around that simple truth.
Why we exist.
South Africa built one of the most sophisticated payment systems in the world, and one of the most digitally unequal retail markets. Those two facts sit side by side, and the distance between them is where Indabazi lives.
National e-commerce platforms optimise for scale. They route every parcel through a national courier network that was never designed for informal addresses, and they price delivery as a fixed cost that only makes sense on high-value baskets. For a household buying a R150 item, the economics never work. So they stay out.
Indabazi takes the opposite approach. We optimise for proximity. Every listing is within walking distance. Every seller is a verified neighbour. Every payment happens face to face. The result is a marketplace that costs nothing to deliver, and asks for nothing but a short walk.
“The most powerful trust mechanism in South Africa is not a rating system. It is the fact that you will see this person again.”
Our values
What we hold ourselves to.
Proximity over scale
We would rather serve one street completely than one country superficially.
Trust is structural
We design systems that make honesty the easiest option, not the most admirable one.
Local leadership
Every Indabazi is led by someone who lives there, is accountable there, and earns there.
Radical affordability
No delivery fees, no listing fees for individuals, no barriers to the first sale.
Data dignity
Personal data is never sold. Location is used only to match neighbours. Nothing more.
Language inclusion
The platform is designed to work in the languages South Africans actually speak at home.
The mark
Why a bee.
The Indabazi mark is a bee — the most recognisable symbol of community and industry in the natural world. A single bee is insignificant. A hive is infrastructure. It pollinates everything around it, and it does so one short flight at a time.
That is the model. Neighbourhood by neighbourhood, exchange by exchange, value that stays where it was created.
Let's build your Indabazi.
We are onboarding neighbourhoods now. Tell us where you are.
