Step 01
Join your Indabazi
Register with your mobile number, verify your SA ID once, then select your neighbourhood from a geofenced list. Your Indabazi is a suburb or township section — never a whole city.
How it works
Indabazi replaces the courier, the call centre and the card machine with something South Africa already trusts completely: the neighbour next door.
Step 01
Register with your mobile number, verify your SA ID once, then select your neighbourhood from a geofenced list. Your Indabazi is a suburb or township section — never a whole city.
Step 02
Sellers post a photo, a price and a collection point. Buyers see only listings inside their Indabazi. A walking-distance badge highlights anything within one kilometre.
Step 03
Agree on a public meeting point in-app. Inspect the item. Pay by PayShap request or instant EFT at handover. Both parties rate the exchange — and the rating is locked to that transaction.
Trust & safety
Every member verifies a South African ID number and a mobile number via one-time PIN. One identity per person. This makes bans permanent and removes the anonymity that enables repeat fraud.
Members can vouch for neighbours they know personally. A vouch is a public, revocable statement of trust. New members inherit credibility from the people who vouch for them, so reputation is built on real relationships rather than volume.
Reviews unlock only after a completed exchange. Sellers cannot buy ratings. Buyers cannot retaliate without a real transaction. Every score on Indabazi maps to a physical handover.
Each Indabazi has a locally recruited Champion who verifies listings above R2,000, mediates disputes and can suspend accounts. Champions are paid from local transaction revenue, so their incentive is a healthy marketplace — not a quick win.
Indabazi is built for the Consumer Protection Act, ECTA and POPIA from day one. Terms are presented at registration, location data is used only for matching, and personal data is never sold without explicit consent.
Payments
South Africa has world-class instant payment infrastructure. Indabazi plugs directly into it, so members never need a new account, a new card or a new habit.
| Method | Used for | Why it works |
|---|---|---|
| PayShap request | Primary in-person payment | Alias-based on a mobile number, instant, 24/7 and already trusted by millions of South Africans. |
| Instant EFT | Holding an item before collection | Bank-grade security with wide consumer familiarity. No card required. |
| QR payment | On-the-spot settlement | Works on any smartphone and is already common at township merchants. |
| Cash | Fallback at handover | Still the default for many households. Indabazi supports it rather than excluding it. |
Why this matters: because payment happens at the point of physical handover, both classic marketplace scams — the fake proof of payment and the undelivered parcel — become structurally impossible.
Khaya Champions
Indabazi does not scale by buying advertising. It scales by empowering one trusted person in every neighbourhood to build the marketplace around them.
Run community sign-up sessions and help neighbours create their first listing.
Extend credibility to members they personally know, growing the trust graph.
Countersign higher-value listings and inspect items where required.
Resolve disputes locally before they ever reach a support queue.
Run monthly Indabazi Days — physical market days that drive downloads and trade.
Receive a stipend plus a share of transaction revenue generated in their area.
Rollout
One high-density township section. Three to five Champions, two hundred members, fifty completed exchanges.
Ten adjacent neighbourhoods in the same metro. Monthly Indabazi Days. Five thousand active members.
Full metro coverage with spaza shops as official collection points and embedded instant payments.
A self-organising Champion model that lets any community launch its own Indabazi.
